Quinta Brunson Responds To Requests For ‘Abbott Elementary’ School Shooting Episode

Quinta Brunson, the creator and actress of ABC's Abbott Elementary, took to social media on Wednesday (May 25) to clarify a recent request from fans. Following the tragic events of Tuesday (May 24) in Uvalde, Texas, which resulted in the deaths of 19 kids and two instructors, the executive producer and writer decided to explain how "bizarre" it has been to be requested to write a school-shooting episode. She tweeted, "Wild how many people have requested a school shooting episode of the show I write." "People are so far gone from demanding more from the people they chose that they are demanding 'entertainment.'" "I can no longer ask, 'Are you all okay?' since the answer is 'no.'" Quinta responded to the bizarre notion in a series of tweets, saying, "Please utilize that energy to encourage your elected official to get on Beto time and nothing less." I'm pleading with you. I don't want to come across as a jerk, but I think it's important that people recognize the folly in asking for something like this. We're not in good shape. Our minds are rotting in this country. It makes me sad." Abbott Elementary is a hit show that is similar to NBC's The Office in terms of comedy. It follows a group of dedicated, enthusiastic, but dysfunctional teachers—along with an out-of-touch principal—as they work in a low-income Philadelphia public school, where they are determined to help pupils succeed in life despite the challenges they confront. Despite the fact that they are frequently understaffed and underfunded, these vital public servants remain dedicated to their work. wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write. people are that deeply removed from demanding more from the politicians they've elected and are instead demanding "entertainment." I can't ask "are yall ok" anymore because the answer is "no."— quinta brunson (@quintabrunson) May 25, 2022 Abbott Elementary School conducted real-life free book fairs for lower-income pupils earlier this year. The community efforts, in collaboration with Scholastic Books, provided new books to schoolchildren across the United States. ABC has renewed the highly popular series for a second season.
