In 2016, Noah Cyrus released her first single "Make Me (Cry)," which featured Labrinth's vocals. On April 14, 2017, she released "Stay Together," which was followed by "I'm Stuck," which was released on May 25, 2017. Noah Cyrus released "Again," a new single starring XXXTentacion, on September 21, 2017. On the Witness: The Tour, she was the opening act for Katy Perry from September 19 to November 1, 2017. Cyrus performed a surprise DJ performance at Emo Nite in Los Angeles in November 2017, which included some of her and her brother Trace Cyrus' songs. Noah Cyrus didn't say anything about it again until February 8, 2021, when she announced on Instagram that she was about to release a joint EP with previously songwriter collaborator PJ Harding ("July," "I Got So High That I Saw Jesus," "The End Of Everything"), with the first single "Dear August" due out three days later.
