Filling stations become battle, vigil grounds as fuel scarcity bites harder in Ondo [Photos] Following the nationwide shortage of fuel, the situation in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, has taken on a new dimension, with citizens sleeping in filling stations in anticipation of the arrival of tankers packed with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), often known as gasoline.  The scarcity has now lasted three weeks, despite the fact that it was supposed to last only a few days. Both motorists and commuters struggle to purchase gasoline from the few filling stations that do so at all hours of the day and night.  Customers who use various means to obtain the commodity, which now sells for between N165 and N300, have displayed displeasure and at times conflicts at a few of the filling stations dispensing the stuff. Few filling stations in the state capital's Ondo Road, Oba-Ile, Arakale, and Shasha regions were selling the product, with long lines of kegs, motorcycles, and automobiles.  Few private automobiles and taxis were seen riding the roads on the major roads within the Akure metropolis, which were formerly bustling with vehicular activity.  Due to the increase in transit charges, several locals have embarked on long distance walks, while others have become trapped at bus stations. Meanwhile, long lines at gas stations had caused gridlock, and most dualized roads in the state capital had been reduced to a single lane due to vehicles' indiscriminate parking.  Mr Tobi Ogunleye, Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Transport, said his office would look into the problem when approached about the need to ensure free flow traffic on the affected routes.  Meanwhile, some citizens have urged officials to reactivate the country's dormant refineries as a long-term solution to the country's crisis.
